Portugal was born in the north. It was in the region of Porto and the North that the Portuguese began as a people and nation. Here we learned the value of difference but also the complementarity of cultures.
Porto, a World Heritage city, is the great gateway and can be the starting point for a journey through the natural and cultural diversity of the region. It is known for the wine that goes from here to the whole world, but also for the School of Architecture, where the names of Álvaro Siza Vieira and Souto de Moura, both Pritzker Awards, came from. And also for a heritage that knows how to combine the antiquity of churches and monuments, such as the Cathedral or the Church of S. Francisco, with the contemporaneity of remarkable buildings such as the House of Music, the Museum of Serralves and others.
The Douro River crosses the region. It enters Portugal tight between the ravines and mountains of the interior to travel all the landscape of World Heritage where the Port and Douro wines are grown. There the wine that follows to the Caves of Gaia and the cruises that visit the region is crossed.
